The Venue

The Indian Wells Tennis Garden is a premier tennis destination located in Southern California’s beautiful Coachella Valley. Home to the BNP Paribas Open, this critically-acclaimed tennis landscape offers visitors a memorable and unique tennis experience in the desert.

Incredible tennis may be what first attracts fans to the BNP Paribas Open, but it is the beautiful setting and onsite excitement that keeps them coming back. Not only is the BNP Paribas Open the largest ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and WTA Premier combined event in the world, it is housed in one of sport’s most beautiful venues: the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Tennis for the New Millennium

Indian Wells Tennis Garden, designed by Rossetti Associates Architects, first opened in March 2000. The desert tennis oasis instantly dazzled players, fans and sponsors with its stunning 54-acre landscape, state-of-the-art facility and 16,100-seat Stadium 1, the second largest in the world. As the home of what would eventually be known as the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells Tennis Garden allowed this beloved tournament to grow in size and popularity.

Addition of Stadium 2

After the 2013 event, a massive expansion project began at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the result of which was a brand new, permanent 8,000-seat Stadium 2. In less than a year Stadium 2 debuted at the 2014 event, as did three permanent restaurants overlooking the on-court action and the grounds, including world-famous Nobu. The off-season renovations also introduced a second 19,000-square-foot shade structure, adjacent to one installed two years prior, and additional practice courts.

A Major Renovation in 2 Phases

For Indian Wells Tennis Garden’s 15th birthday, it was determined that Stadium 1 would undergo a makeover to ensure that it remained the enviable, state-of-the-art facility it had always been. This renovation took place in two phases, with the first phase taking place prior to the 2016 event and the second phase being completed before the 2017 event. When it was all said and done, Stadium 1 boasted new seats, lowered court surface to accommodate recessed television cameras, a VIP Champions Club, remodeled suites and the addition of 21 new restaurants and concession areas.

Additional improvements were made outside of Stadium 1, most notably the now permanent Stadium Plaza and Superwall which provide a relaxing area for fans to view matches live on screen, much like Wimbledon’s Henman Hill/Murray Mound or the Plaza outside Arthur Ashe Stadium at the US Open.

The Indian Wells Tennis Garden has become a staple not only in the Coachella Valley but also in the world of professional tennis. It is revered, respected and admired as the home of a premier tennis tournament and its recent renovations and improvement ensure that it remains a place for fans to enjoy world-class tennis matches; unparalleled dining options; and some of the most scenic views anywhere in the world.
