In arguably the best qualifying contest on either the men’s or women’s side, American Marcos Giron took on Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic with a spot in the 2019 BNP Paribas Open Main Draw on the line.
The crowd at Stadium 4 was treated to a Giron victory of 6-7(3), 7-5, 7-6(4) in a thrilling back-and-forth affair that took over two and a half hours to complete.
After falling in the first set tiebreaker, Giron dug himself out of the hole with superb play that included seven aces as well as saving (8/13) 62% of Kecmanovic’s break point opportunities.
Giron has already had a successful stay in the desert, as he won the Oracle Challenger Series Indian Wells Doubles title alongside partner JC Aragone.
Tune in to the BNP Paribas Open men’s main draw to see if Giron can continue his ascent in Tennis Paradise!
