Japan’s Mai Hontama made her WTA Tour debut at the WTA 500 2021 Chicago Fall Tennis Classic, reaching the fourth round with a win over former World No. 4 Carolina Garcia – Hontama’s first Top 100 win. She then made her Grand Slam debut at 2022 Wimbledon after qualifying, reaching the second round. This past January, Hontama received a Wild Card and made her main draw debut at the 2024 Australian Open.
