The 2026 BNP Paribas Open generated an estimated total economic impact of more than $887 million across the Coachella Valley. The new report represents a 57% increase and more than $300 million in growth since 2022, including a $35 million increase from the previous study conducted in 2024.
With expansive global reach, the two-week combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tournament brought fans from all over the world to Indian Wells, generating $629 million in direct economic impact through spending by out-of-town visitors, tournament organizers, sponsors, exhibitors, vendors, and media. An additional $258 million in indirect and induced economic impact brought the tournament’s total impact to $887 million.
The economic impact was just one part of a historic year for the BNP Paribas Open. The 2026 tournament broke the all-time attendance record with a total of 527,626 fans, with more than 175,000 unique spectators attending an average of three days each. Of those spectators, 94 percent traveled from outside the region, representing over 165,000 visitors to the region.

“Every March, hundreds of thousands of fans come to the Coachella Valley to experience Tennis Paradise and enjoy everything our region has to offer,” said Philippe Dore, Chief Marketing Officer of the BNP Paribas Open. “With nearly $900 million of economic impact in 2026, the tournament has become a significant contributor in the local economy and we look forward to playing an important role in the Coachella Valley's continued growth and success.”
The tournament’s regional impact also supported the equivalent of 12,706 full-time jobs and produced more than $55 million in fiscal impact through tax revenues, including sales tax, Transient Occupancy Tax, and property tax.
“The BNP Paribas Open demonstrates the extraordinary impact a world-class sporting event can have across our entire destination,” said Scott White, President & CEO of Visit Greater Palm Springs. “Welcoming more than 165,000 visitors from outside the region generates significant economic activity throughout the Coachella Valley, supporting our hotels, restaurants, attractions, and local businesses. The tournament’s continued growth not only drives visitation and strengthens our regional economy but also elevates Greater Palm Springs on the global stage as a premier sports and leisure destination.”
The tournament’s impact on the Coachella Valley extends beyond tourism and economic activity. In 2026, the BNP Paribas Open contributed $750,000 to The Champions Volunteer Foundation, helping support more than 75 local nonprofit organizations and programs serving the community, including the Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, and American Red Cross.
The economic impact study was conducted by The George Washington University using visitor survey results, tournament and sponsor data, and established economic impact methodology to estimate the direct, indirect, and induced economic activity generated by the event.
