100 years of Laykold

In 2026, we celebrate 100 years of inventing and reinventing tennis courts. The earliest known reference to Laykold as a tennis court surface dates back to 1926.

Over the past century, generations of legendary players have competed and trained on Laykold surfaces. From Don Budge and Bobby Riggs competing on Laykold in 1935 at the Pacific Coast Tennis Championships, to Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert in the 1980s at the Miami Open, and most recently Mirra Andreeva and Jack Draper claiming victories at the 2025 Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Known for pace precision and consistency, Laykold courts deliver 10x greater consistency than the accepted industry standard. In a sport measured in milliseconds and millimetres, this unrivalled precision ensures that players at the BNP Paribas Open can showcase their best skills with complete confidence in the court beneath them.

From tropical humidity to dry desert air, Laykold tailors its courts to match local playing conditions. This consistency across the tennis world ensures that, within and between events, all courts perform equally, allowing matches to be decided by the players. That’s good for everyone.
