Daniel Altmaier sports one of the most elegant one-handed backhands in the game. The German began the season at a career-high ATP Ranking of No. 44 after his banner year in 2025, which reaped 22 match wins. Last year he took out then-No. 4 Taylor Fritz en route to the Roland Garros fourth round and defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas en route to the US Open third round. Roland Garros has been Altmaier’s favorite Slam. He first reached the fourth round in 2000 and in 2023 he defeated Jannik Sinner in the second round in a five-set match lasting 5 hours and 26 minutes, the fifth longest overall match in the tournament’s history. Altmaier is returning to Indian Wells for the fourth time. He is yet to reach the third round.
