Player Overview

Teenager Joao Fonseca is one of the hottest young stars on the ATP Tour with a passionate fan base in Brazil already rivaling that of Gustavo Kuerten at his peak. After winning the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, Fonseca won titles last year in Buenos Aires and Basel to finish the year at No. 24 in the ATP Rankings after a 26-match win season. His victory in BA made him the youngest South American tournament winner since 1990. Fonseca, 19, withdrew from lead-up events to the Australian Open with a back injury and fell in the first round in Melbourne, but he said in Melbourne that his back was now 100 per cent healthy. He made headlines the previous year at the Australian Open when he beat World No. 9 Andrey Rublev on his Grand Slam debut.
