18-year-old Joao Fonseca made headlines at the 2025 Australian Open, beating No. 9 Andrey Rublev in the first round of his Grand Slam debut. This was the first time since 2002 that a teenager defeated a Top 10 opponent in their first Major appearance. He followed this up by making more history when he won the 2025 Argentina Open, becoming the youngest South American to win an ATP event since 1990. In 2024, the Brazilian picked up his first ATP Tour wins, including a first round win in his Masters debut at the Madrid Open. Fonseca also claimed the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals crown, and made his Top 100 debut following his performance in Melbourne.
