Mackeznie McDonald earned the 2021 ATP Comeback Player of the Year, and is a Northern California native. McDonald played for UCLA from 2014-16, winning the 2016 NCAA singles and doubles titles. McDonald broke into the Top 50 in February 2022 and reached a career-high No. 37 in October 2023 after undergoing right hamstring surgery in 2019 and falling outside the Top 250 in 2020. He reached his first ATP Tour final in Washington in 2021 with wins over former champions Kyrgios and Nishikori, then won his first ATP Tour doubles title in Tokyo in 2022 (w/ Melo). His biggest wins include upsetting defending champion and World No. 2 Nadal at the 2023 Australian Open, and beating No. 7 Rublev en route to his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal in Toronto in 2023; He won the 2016 NCAA singles and doubles titles for UCLA.
