Without a Tour-level win to his name at the beginning of the 2025 season, Frenchman Valentin Royer ended the year knocking on the door of the Top 50 after winning 10 matches. He spent the first half of the season largely playing ATP Challengers but his breakout came in Hangzhou in September, when he beat Andrey Rublev en route to the final, where he pushed Alexander Bublik to two tie-breaks. That was the beginning of a five-tournament stretch at Tour-level where he advanced through qualifying at each event. Royer has played in Indian Wells three times before, but in the main draw just once.
