Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann played college tennis at the University of Southern California, where he helped the Trojans win two NCAA national titles. He reached the men’s doubles semifinals at the 2024 Australian Open alongside countryman Dominik Koepfer. The hearing-impaired Hanfmann broke into the Top 50 in singles for the first time in his career in 2023 with a quarterfinal run at the 2023 ATP Masters 1000 in Rome, picking up two Top 10 wins over No. 9 Taylor Fritz and No. 6 Andrey Rublev along the way. He reached the second round of his BNP Paribas Open main draw debut in 2024. After 20 match wins in 2024 he managed just 12 last season. He finished the year strongly by pushing Novak Djokovic to three sets in Shanghai and by reaching the Athens semifinals, where he also lost to the Serbian.
