Video: Alexander Zverev – Friday, October 15, 2021

by BNP Paribas Open
10/15/2021

T. FRITZ/A. Zverev
4-6, 6-3, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Tough, tough match out there. We know how tough it is in a tennis match, or at least we think we do. You’re out there, no coaches, out there by yourself. When you are struggling on your serve in the sun, what is going through your mind? If you could share, I’d appreciate it.

ALEXANDER ZVEREV: Well, I mean, today was just not really my day, to be honest. I was close to winning, but the level of tennis was just not quite there for me.

I mean, Fritz, he played a great match. He deserves to be in the semis. Yeah, I mean, today mentally is not easy for me.

Q. Definitely a tough day, but you have been on the other end of this outcome many times. You have had such a strong season, the Olympics and everything in between. As you look at the rest of the season, what are your plans? I know things can change, but what is your thought right now?

ALEXANDER ZVEREV: My next tournament is Vienna. Hoping I can deal with it well there, but right now I just want to go home. I want to just be at home, to be honest.

As you said, yeah, it was a very long season. I have played well. But this one hurts because I knew that after Stefanos lost this morning, I was kind of the favorite to win this tournament, but my tennis wasn’t there yet.
