Djokovic Checks Last Career Milestone Off the List, Completes Golden Slam

If there were any remaining doubts regarding Novak Djokovic’s legendary status, those can officially be put to bed. Matched up against the men's star of 2024 so far in Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic found another level of greatness on court, channeling incredible strength to prevail on Court Philippe Chatrier and claim an Olympic Gold Medal – the only big title he had yet to secure in his career.

At 37-years-old, the Serbian became the oldest male gold medalist in singles, avenging past disappointing performances at the Olympics. It had been a difficult year for Djokovic so far with no titles and some injuries suffered earlier in the summer, but in Paris he showed that he still has what it takes to be the best on the international stage – and now he has his career Golden Slam – joining the likes of Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams as the only players to win all four major and an Olympic Gold Medal in singles.

Qinwen Zheng Secures Signature Title And History For China

Qinwen Zheng burst onto the scene to start 2024 with a runner-up finish at the Australian Open, but results had been hard for the young Chinese star to come by after her success early in January.  But Zheng delivered the shining performance of her career thus far in Paris, taking down marquee players including No. 1 Iga Swiatek en route to capturing an Olympic Gold Medal – the first in Chinese tennis history. With her win, Zheng also became the first male or female Asian-born player to win gold in tennis.

This win in Paris now represents a signature title for the World No. 7 and one that will formally announce her presence as a force on tour.

Team USA Takes Silver and Bronze In Men’s Doubles

While Team USA was unable to bring home a gold at Paris 2024, the men will have to feel proud about walking away with both silver and bronze in the doubles competition. The pairing of Rajeev Ram / Austin Krajicek came bitterly close to capturing gold, falling 10-8 in a third set match tiebreak to Gold Medalists Matthew Ebden / John Peers of Australia.

It was also a tournament to remember for Taylor Fritz / Tommy Paul as the two put their singles stardom to the side and took the doubles spotlight to capture bronze together.
