H. RUNE/T. Fritz
2-6, 7-6, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Congratulations on the win. It was a pretty big comeback for you. At what point did you fell like things were starting to turn in your favor?
HOLGER RUNE: Yeah, actually in the middle of the second set I start to play better. My serve, had some easier service games in a way and I was pushing him a bit more in his serve in my return games. I feel like I was striking the ball better, feeling more comfortable with my movements out there.
After I saved the match point, I gained some confidence. I even think from being down 5-4 I still believed in myself. I just lost focus quickly, and that's why he got the match points in that service game. Then after that I was close to break him. He held, and then played a very good tiebreak.
Q. What does winning a match like this do for your confidence moving forward?
HOLGER RUNE: It's great. The most important is I kept believing, kept trying to play better. It means a lot to win these kind of matches. It gives me opportunity to play another match tomorrow against a great opponent.
Q. What are your thoughts, coming up against Daniil?
HOLGER RUNE: It's going to be an interesting match. We played each other twice on clay courts. It's going to be first meeting on a hard court.
I'm excited. He's a great opponent. Different kind of player than many others. Again, he has a big serve like Fritz has, as well.
Yeah, I'm just going to believe in myself and play my game.
Q. What was it like playing inside Stadium Court like that? You mentioned in your postmatch interview it's one of the bigger stadiums in the world. Did you feel the energy from that stadium?
HOLGER RUNE: I did, for sure. It was a great crowd, I think. I think I got a lot of support, you know. Also for Taylor. I think it was a cool atmosphere. We produced some great tennis for the fans.
Yeah, I was obviously happy with the outcome. I thought I managed to play some really good tennis in the third set. I think the crowd was feeding off our level, and it was good fun.
Q. Are you okay? Little stuffed up?
HOLGER RUNE: Yeah, I'm okay.
Q. Physically okay after the match?
HOLGER RUNE: Yeah, of course I'm a bit sleepy now. Yeah, just did an ice bath. I'm a bit cold. But otherwise I feel good. Thank you. Thanks for asking.
