Sabalenka and Gauff's Path

In the women’s top half of the draw, a potential round-of-16 matchup between top seed and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and 2018 champion Naomi Osaka stands out. Sabalenka is seeking her first title in the California desert.

American Coco Gauff faces a challenging early path. After her first-round bye, the two-time major champion could meet Canadian wild card Bianca Andreescu. If the No. 4 seed advances, Alexandra Eala of the Philippines could await in the third round.

No. 31-seeded Eala, making her main draw debut, will face either Dayana Yastremska or Zhang Shuai after her first-round bye.

In the bottom half, two-time champion Iga Swiatek will need to navigate a difficult section to reach the quarterfinals. She is projected to face two-time finalist Maria Sakkari in the third round, Karolina Muchova in the fourth round and defending champion Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals, should seeds hold.

No. 8-seeded Andreeva, who will face either Peyton Stearns or Solana Sierra in her opening match (second round following a bye), defeated Swiatek in last year’s semifinal, ending the Pole’s bid for a record third women’s singles title.

Alcaraz, Djokovic in Top Half

Five-time champion Novak Djokovic has been drawn into Carlos Alcaraz’s half of the bracket, with a potential fourth-round meeting with defending champion Jack Draper on the horizon. Alcaraz, bidding for his third career title in the California desert, will open against the winner of Grigor Dimitrov and Terence Atmane.

Djokovic will face either Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or Kamil Majchrzak in his opening match (round 2, after bye).

No. 2 seed Jannik Sinner, seeking his first title in Tennis Paradise, is projected to meet American Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals if seeds hold. Shelton will open against either Reilly Opelka or Ethan Quinn in the second round.

If it is early round popcorn you seek, look no further than a first-round clash between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Denis Shapovalov, with the winner moving on to face Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
