In 2022, Botic van de Zandschulp achieved a new career-high ranking at No. 22, and ended the season as the No. 1 Dutchman. At the 2021 US Open, van de Zandschulp reached the quarterfinal as a qualifier, becoming only the third man to do so in the Open Era. This also made him the first Dutchman in a Grand Slam quarterfinal since 2004 and he was the only player in the tournament to take a set off eventual champion Daniil Medvedev.
