Playing the BNP Paribas Open was only a dream last year for Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot, who was ranked No. 262 at the beginning of March after a three-week ATP Challenger stint in India. But life changed dramatically in October at the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai. Vacherot, still ranked outside the Top 200, got an alternate spot into qualifying and produced the Cinderella story of the season to win nine consecutive matches during a fortnight of punishing heat to take the title, defeating three Top 20 players en route, including Novak Djokovic. Vacherot finished the year by reaching the BNP Paribas Masters quarterfinals in Paris and in early 2026 broke the Top 30 for the first time.
