Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova claimed the women’s doubles title on Saturday at Indian Wells, inching past first-time tandem Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund for the title, 6-1, 6-7(3), 10-7.

After the victory, Krejcikova thanked her teammate Siniakova for her contribution to another title run.

“Thank you for playing with me for such a long and very successful period. I’m really happy that I play with you – it’s always very stressful for me but I enjoy it,” Krejcikova said with a laugh.

She also thanked Haddad Maia and Seigemund and praised them for doing so well on their debut as a team.

“For the first time playing together and getting this far, I think it’s a really amazing achievement,” she said. “I hope you’re gonna play together a bit more and we will have some big finals and nice matches.”

Krejcikova and Siniakova claim their 15th team title in their 69th professional tournament as a duo. They are the first Czechs to raise the women’s doubles title since 2018, when Barbora Strycova paired with Tapei’s Hsieh Su-Wei to take the title.

They had to work hard to get it. After blazing through the first set 6-1 the Brazilian-German tandem came to life and put constant pressure in the Czechs in set two.

It paid off in the form of many close games and what could have been a pivotal break for 4-3, but the advantage was quickly recovered by Krejcikova and Siniakova.

The teams marched to a second-set tiebreak, which was dominated by Haddad Maia and Siegemund, 7-3.

In the championship tiebreak, Krejcikova and Siniakova showed their poise and led 7-4 and 9-6 before converting their third match point, and second of the tiebreak, to close out the victory in one hour and 57 minutes.

Krejcikova and Siniakova remain undefeated in 2023 at 11-0. They won their seventh major title at the Australian Open in their only previous appearance this season.
