Unseeded Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard claimed the biggest titles of their careers Saturday when they took down singles stars Arthur Rinderknech and Valentin Vacherot 7-6(3), 6-3 in the doubles final.

"I'm so, so happy to win this amazing tournament," Argentine Andreozzi said of his first title with his French partner. "I'm so proud of our journey since last year and so happy that all the hard work has paid off."

"They played doubles in college so I knew it would be a dangerous match," Guinard added. "We had to prepare to play with the pressure because it's the first Masters 1000 final for Guido and me."

It was an arduous path to the title for the pair that is now fourth in the doubles Race to Turin. In the quarterfinals they rallied from a set down to defeat fourth seeds and Australian Open champions Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski.

In the semifinals they took out top seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos after dropping a 28-point first-set tie-break.

Originally known for their singles, Guinard said that he and Andreozzi had spent more time studying the intricacies of the doubles game, resulting in their on-court success.

“We both come singles, so we've got the quality of the singles players, so we know to play from the baseline. And we were thinking a little bit more about the positioning at the net, positioning of the volley and stuff, like all the doubles game, which was a huge plus for us this week.

“I think we did it pretty good; we could win important points in the tiebreak today in the first set and in the super-tiebreak yesterday against Granollers/Zeballos.”
