K. SINIAKOVA/M. Andreeva
4-6, 7-6, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. Coming into this match, you had already spent, like, five hours on the court, and that didn't include doubles. Are you tired yet?
KATERINA SINIAKOVA: Oh, I am, so much (smiling). I think you could see it in the match that I was trying to slow it down, you know, just take my time.
Yeah, I'm just so happy that I finish it, because my body is feeling it, definitely.
Q. It was a squirrelly match. There was a lot going on. Ending with the net cord, what do you think when that ball finally went over?
KATERINA SINIAKOVA: Yeah, I mean, of course I'm happy it went on the other side. I was, like, should I cheer or should -- no, it's really tricky finish.
Definitely I hit the backhand. I was like, oh, is it on the other side? Yeah, it was relief, you know, anyway. So no one wants to finish like this. I wanted to enjoy it, but definitely I will not say I'm not happy. I was happy it was on the other side (smiling).
Yeah, it was really long match, and I'm just proud. You know, I kept fighting and trying to keep those long rallies and I did really well.
Q. I believe in the match there were 42 total breakpoint opportunities between both of you. Was there something about her serve that you were able to read and you had so much success?
KATERINA SINIAKOVA: Well, definitely I was trying to. I think both of us were a little bit struggling against the wind, so we were kind of losing the games on that side and winning on the other side.
But, yeah, I was expecting her to go to my forehand. That's what usually players do. So I was just happy I could, you know, return it well and get into the rallies, to the point, when I think I'm better.
Q. I know playing singles and doubles, you're having a lot of success here. Does one really help the other? Does one help each other? Is there going to be a point where, you know, it's a lot?
KATERINA SINIAKOVA: I mean, if I play matches like this, definitely it's a lot. I mean, but not every day I play three-and-a-half and two-and-a-half, and then it of course continues. I mean, I would like to have day off, but I choose it. I choose singles and doubles, and I like it.
For me, sometimes the match is better than the practice, because you feel all the pressure. You know, you need to be more solid, more aggressive maybe than sometime practice, it's like a little bit more easy.
So definitely, for me, doubles is helping, and the serve and return needs to be really on spot, because if you don't play, like, great placement, then that player is there.
Yeah, I love to play both. You know, until I stay healthy, I think I'm gonna do it.
Q. Serve and return, especially in these conditions?
KATERINA SINIAKOVA: Yeah.
Q. Next up, Svitolina. General thoughts. What do you need to do to recover, to keep this going?
KATERINA SINIAKOVA: Yeah, I'm going to do anything. I will try to be ready. I did ice bath, physio, trying to rest.
I have match tomorrow, so yeah, I will try to make it fast, but definitely against Elina, it's going to be another four hours' match if I want to win (smiling).
No, so I'm just going to do what I'm doing. I will try to fight and I will try to leave everything on the court, and I will see how it goes. You know, I'm already proud on myself, so I will just try to keep fighting.
