45-year-old Venus Williams, paired with American Christian Harrison, couldn’t clear the first hurdle on Wednesday in Stadium 4. The Americans were taken out by Great Britain’s Julian Cash and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-2. 

Three other teams reached the quarterfinals on Wednesday. 

Germany’s Tim Puetz and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe defeated Leylah Fernandez and three-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion John Peers in a match tiebreak, 6-4, 7-6(4), 10-8; Gabriela Dabrowski, a two-time mixed doubles Slam champion, paired with Great Britain’s Lloyd Glasspool to defeat Andrey Rublev and Nicole Melichar-Martinez, 7-5, RET. 

In the final match of the day, El Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo and Brazil’s Luisa Stefani topped Kevin Krawietz and Ellen Perez, 6-2, 6-2. 

Quarterfinal action in the $1 million mixed doubles invitational starts tomorrow.
