If there was anyone wondering how World No.1 Iga Swaitek was going to handle defending her BNP Paribas Open title –well, you have your answer.
The Polish superstar, who took over the top ranking almost exactly a year ago following the shock retirement of then No. 1 Ashleigh Barty, was ruthless in her opening round match against Claire Liu, dominating the American 6-0, 6-1 in just over an hour of play on Stadium 1 court.
