Coco Gauff was crowned 2024 WTA Finals Champion in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, following a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory over tournament debutant Qinwen Zheng. Despite going down a set and twice facing a break deficit in the deciding set, Gauff overcame the 2024 Olympic Gold Medalist in a three-hour battle between the field's two youngest competitors.
Gauff’s run to the title in Riyadh included convincing victories over the top two seeds in the field. In the second match of group play, she defeated the defending WTA Finals champion and 2024 BNP Paribas Open Champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets. She followed this up with another straight sets victory in the semifinal over Aryna Sabalenka, who had just clinched the season-ending No. 1 spot during the group stage.
At 20-years-old, Gauff became the youngest WTA Finals Champion since Maria Sharapova won the event in 2004 at 17. She also joins elite American company with this victory, following Chris Evert, Tracy Austin, and Serena Williams as the fourth American under the age of 21 to win the WTA Finals.
2025 BNP Paribas Open TicketsJannik Sinner put his finishing touches on a breakout 2024 season as he convincingly took home a first ATP Finals crown. Playing in his home country, Sinner’s victory in Turin capped off a season that also saw him clinch the year-ending World No. 1 for the first time, win his first two career Grand Slams at the Australian and US Open, and claim three ATP Masters 1000 titles.
Sinner swept his way to the title without dropping a set, defeating Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev and Casper Ruud en route to the title match. In the final, he again faced Fritz in a rematch of the 2024 US Open final. This marks the 23-year-old Italian’s first ATP Finals title, after coming up short to Novak Djokovic in last year’s championship match.
2022 BNP Paribas Open Champion Fritz closed out an impressive year by reaching his first ATP Finals championship match in his second career appearance at the event. He defeated de Minaur and Medvedev in the group stage, advancing to the semifinal where he overcame Alexander Zverev in a third set tiebreak.
Ultimately, Fritz came up short in the final to Sinner, a repeat result of Fritz’s first Grand Slam final appearance at the 2024 US Open. Despite coming up short as the runner-up, Fritz will walk away from Turin with remarkable accolades. With this showing, Fritz moved into the Top 4 in the ATP rankings for the first time in his career, marking the first time an American has been that high in the season-ending rankings since James Blake in 2006. Fritz is also the first American since Blake in 2006 to reach the final of the season-ending tournament.
