Tiafoe Reaches First Career Masters 1000 Final At Cincinnati

Frances Tiafoe is no stranger to the bright lights of New York City, as the hallmark performance of his career came with a run to the 2022 US Open Semifinal where he lost an epic five-set match to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz

2024 had been a disappointing year so far by Tiafoe’s lofty standards, but a recent run to the final in Cincinnati has the American feeling like he may be able to reach the same level of form that guided him to that dream run in New York just two years ago. He ultimately came up short, falling to the World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the final, but Tiafoe will have to be feeling confident after playing some exceptional tennis this summer and reaching the biggest final of his career.

Resurgent Jessica Pegula Finding Her Form At The Right Time

Jessica Pegula's 2024 season did not get off to the start she hoped for, but now heading into New York, she has as much momentum as anyone on the WTA Tour.

After a disappointing withdrawal from the French Open and an early exit at Wimbledon, Pegula finally found her form earlier this month in Toronto at the National Bank Open. She successfully defended her title in Canada, winning a third career WTA 1000 title. Pegula then followed up her title with a runner-up finish in Cincinnati, losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

The World No. 6 is still yet to breakthrough at a Grand Slam, where she has reached the quarterfinals six time before but is yet to make a major semifinal. With the current form she’s in, the 2024 US Open may just be her best chance yet to break through, and to do so on home soil would make it all the more meaningful.
