And then there were eight! The Round of 16 is in the books at the BNP Paribas Open, and on Thursday, all eight men’s and women’s singles quarterfinals matches will commence around the grounds. The age of Wozniacki, who is the oldest women’s singles quarterfinalist at this year’s BNP Paribas Open, and the seventh woman to reach the quarterfinals after turning 33.
By reaching his maiden BNP Paribas Open quarterfinal, Norway’s Casper Ruud becomes the first Scandinavian man to reach the last eight since Robin Soderling in 2010.
Jannik Sinner stretched his career-best winning streak to 18 matches with his straight sets win over Ben Shelton on Tuesday. The Italian is the first ATP player aged 23 or younger to start a season with 15 consecutive wins since Stefan Edberg in 1987.
Defending BNP Paribas Open champion Carlos Alcaraz is streaking as well. The 20-year-old has notched nine consecutive matches at Indian Wells and will face Alexander Zverev for a shot to reach the semis for the third consecutive year on Thursday.
Number of games dropped by Iga Swiatek all tournament to reach the quarterfinals. The Polish juggernaut has lost more than three games in a set only once this year. The 2022 champion improved to 15-2 lifetime at Indian Wells with her round of 16 win over Yulia Putintseva.
