Another thrilling season of tennis is nearing the finish line, with the WTA and ATP Finals set to cap off the 2025 campaign with a coveted title. While many players have punched their ticket for a chance at year-ending glory, the final spots are still up for grabs. Here are the standout players vying for a chance to compete in Riyadh and Turin:
Get 2026 TicketsSeven of the eight spots in the WTA Finals are secured, meaning one place in Riyadh is still up for grabs. It will be claimed by either Mirra Andreeva or Elena Rybakina, with just 14 ranking points separating them in the Race to Riyadh entering the week.
Andreeva is hoping to make her WTA Finals Debut at just 18 years old. The teenage sensation began the season with remarkable results, winning back to back 1000-level events at the Dubai Tennis Championships and the BNP Paribas Open. At Indian Wells, she defeated World No. 2 Iga Swiatek and No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in consecutive matches on her way to her biggest career breakthrough.
The teenager's fate is in the hands of Rybakina, who won a BNP Paribas Open title of her own in 2023. Her 2025 resume includes three Masters semifinals and two 500-level titles, including a recent victory at Ningbo that rejuvenated her push for the WTA Finals. Now, if Rybakina reaches the semifinal in Tokyo (which Andreeva is not playing), she will have successfully leapfrogged Andreeva in the dying embers of the season.
Unlike the WTA, the ATP’s Race to Turin still has much to be determined. Only three players (Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic) have clinched berths entering the week, leaving plenty of potential for shakeups in the rest of the field. As the Tour turns to 500-level events Basel and Vienna with a Masters in Paris on the horizon, the potential for late drama is palpable.
Get TicketsCurrently in the last spot, Lorenzo Musetti is surely feeling the greatest pressure as the hopefuls just outside the field are riding key results heading into this week. Felix Auger-Aliassime (Brussels), Casper Ruud (Stockholm) and Daniil Medvedev (Almaty) all won titles last week, shrinking the distance from the Italian, who was bounced early in Brussels. If he can’t fix his hardcourt woes in this home stretch, Musetti could miss out on an ATP Finals debut in front of his home crowd.
