50

Number of 1000-level wins achieved by Coco Gauff during her teenage years. The American became the first teenager to achieve 50 WTA 1000 wins since 2009 the format was introduced in 2009.

“That’s pretty cool,” Gauff said when informed of the stat, giggling as she addressed the crowd after her 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) win over France’s Clara Burel. “Hopefully I can close this chapter of my life off good. I’m really happy with how my teenage years went. I did everything that I wanted to do – the biggest one was to win a major as a teenager, so now hopefully I can win a couple more in my twenties.”

400

Number of Masters 1000 wins earned by Novak Djokovic. The five-time BNP Paribas Open champion defeated Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 to push his lifetime record to 400-86 in ATP Masters 1000 events.

The 24-time major champion joins Rafael Nadal (406-88) as the only player with 400 or more ATP Masters 1000 wins since the series began in 1990.

Djokovic may not (yet) own the record for most Masters 1000 wins, but he already owns the record for most ATP Masters 1000 titles, with 40. Additionally, the 36-year-old improves his impeccable record at the BNP Paribas Open to 51-9.

He will face Italy’s Luca Nardi in the third round.

Number of players in the third round that employ the one-handed backhand.

February 19th was a sad day for backhand aficionados: for the first time in the history of the ATP ranking there were no players with a single-handed backhand in the Top 10. As of this week, of the 200 men and women in the Top 100 of the ATP and WTA rankings, only 13 play the shot (10 men, 3 women).

Four are carrying the torch into the third round – France’s Diane Parry on the women’s side; Stefanos Tsitsipas, Grigor Dimitrov and Lorenzo Musetti on the men’s side.

Number of moms into the third round at the BNP Paribas Open. It’s been a boon for working moms this year at Indian Wells. An esteemed quartet of moms have powered into the third round, as former Grand Slam champions Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki are joined by Elina Svitolina

Gone but not forgotten are former champion Victoria Azarenka, Tatjana Maria and Taylor Townsend, who dropped out in the second round.
